The Brewery in Beaconsfield Tasmania, Our Story
Miners Gold Brewery was founded in 2019, named in tribute to the Beaconsfield mine disaster of April 25, 2006. On that fateful day, 17 miners were trapped underground, with only 14 making it out alive. The brewery itself is housed in the original Chief Engineer’s house, standing as a living connection to the town’s deep mining history.
The Beaconsfield mine is among the most gold-rich in Australia, having yielded an incredible 1.95 million ounces over its operational years. And just as the mine produced gold, we’re committed to crafting liquid gold—Tasmania’s finest beers—right here in Beaconsfield.
Our passion for brewing runs deep. “The boys” were experimenting with beer and spirits before they could even drive, brewing in their cubby house long before they could buy a pint. Though their early creations didn’t pass the taste test, they certainly did the job!
The de Villiers family, who originally founded the Innes Distillery in Tullah, Tasmania, has continued their journey into crafting exceptional beverages, playing a key role in building what is fast becoming one of Tasmania’s best breweries.
Brewing Excellence
Every beer we produce at Miners Gold is a testament to quality, passion, and precision. Our secret? Pure, fresh Tasmanian water. We independently test our water periodically to ensure it remains at the highest standard, preserving its natural purity and ensuring it delivers the cleanest, freshest beer possible.
At the heart of our brewing operation is Stu—our head brewer and brew house manager. A true scientist at heart, Stu is meticulous in his craft, going above and beyond to ensure every single beer is of premium quality. His love for brewing is particularly evident in his IPA creations, where he showcases his mastery of hops and balance.
Working alongside Stu is Brad, our assistant brewer. Known locally as a Rubik’s Cube wizard and Tasmania’s finest honey producer, Brad is also the mastermind behind Psychedelic Frog—the most successful sour beer ever brewed in Beaconsfield.
We take pride in sourcing local ingredients whenever possible, supporting Tasmanian growers while ensuring our beers carry the unmistakable taste of home.
Beyond Our Own Brews
Beyond Our Own Brews Miners Gold isn’t just about our own beers—we’re proud to help others bring their brewing visions to life. We offer affordable contract brewing and packaging services, working with breweries such as Birch Beer Co in Bicheno and Welcome Swallow Brewery in New Norfolk. We’re also home to Ocho Beer, founded by our head brewer Stu. Ocho is renowned for its seasonal IPA range, meticulously brewed to match the changing seasons. Every release is an event for craft beer lovers, and we’re proud to be part of its journey.
